Client: Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities Background:
Neighbor. Classmate. Coworker. Teammate. Friend. People with developmental disabilities are Just Like You. This is the message that the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities promotes year-round as it develops opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, work and play in their community.
Established in 1967, the Cuyahoga County Board of DD serves more than 8,000 children and adults. Although it is best known for its early childhood centers, schools, adult activities centers and group homes, located throughout the county, it provides a full range of support and services. These include in-home early intervention programs for very young children and their families; leisure programs for seniors who have developmental disabilities; specialized therapies (speech-language, occupational and physical); behavioral and health care services; service coordination and support administration; family resources and respite care; supported living; vocational training; community employment and job placement with dozens of area employers and rehabilitation engineering and crisis intervention. Funding for these operations comes primarily from a countywide property tax last approved by voters in 2005.
