Dressing for Brand “YOU”
Guest Column by Dawn Waldrop of Best Impressions
Dressing professional will always work for you. Dressing unprofessional will always be a detriment. It is important to your career success to learn what attire: Power Professional, Professional or Appropriate Business Casual works best for who you are and what your goals are as a professional man or woman. Here are a few do’s and don’ts to live by:
DO
- Wear a professional shoe.
- Keep your nails manicured.
- Have your clothes tailored.
- Wear professional attire. When in doubt always go professional.
- Carry a nice business card holder, pen and professional accessory.
- Do wear hosiery.
- Do wear natural basic make-up.
- Do be well groomed: clean shaven or trimmed facial hair.
- Do invest in personal image consultations.
DON'T
- Wear overly bright colors and odd patterns.
- Over do your perfume or cologne.
- Wear sandals, flip flops or stilettos with professional attire.
- Wear crop tops or hip hugger pants.
- Show cleavage ladies.
- No pants dragging on the ground guys.
- Wear your shirts hanging out guys.
- Wear a dress shirt unbuttoned with a crew neck tee shirt.
- Mix your work attire with your weekend attire in the closet.
"Today it is much harder for employees to navigate how to present their best image for business success. The dress rules have changed but the business expectations remain the same." -Dawn Waldrop
